IPOH, Nov 21 — The number of flood victims in Perak rose to 315 today from 286 yesterday, said Fire and Rescue Department director Yahya Madif. He said the latest flood victims, comprising 34 individuals from 12 families in Bukit Merah, Batu 38 and Batu 40 Bagan Serai district, were housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Merah due to rising water level of 0.9 metre caused by heavy rain yesterday afternoon.
“While the number of flood victims in Hilir Perak district, involving Kampung Lorong Mesra, Batu 9, Lorong Kedah and Kampung Baru Batu 8, still remained at 167 people from 52 families being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong,” he said when contacted here today.
He said landslide victims had decreased from 75 to to 61 people involving Kampung Padang Serai, Batu Hampar, Beruas who were still being accomodated at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Radhuaniah, Kampung Padang Serai.
“Flood victims in Bagan Serai, involving Kampung Changkat Lobak, Matang Tengah and Kampung Air Hitam, rose to 53 from 14 families who are housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Lobak,” he said.
He said the continuous rain since yesterday afternoon had caused the water level to rise between 0.2 metre to 0.9 metre in the affected areas due to the overflowing river nearby. — Bernama
